The Cliffs of Moher + The Burren — An Irish MUST!

Cliffs of Moher + The Burren Tour

So to celebrate the 4th of July in Ireland I got to cross something off of my bucket list! I finally got to see, with my own eyes, the Cliffs of Moher and they were unFREAKINGbelievable. I wasn’t sure if it was actually as good as I had heard, or if it was just a tourist trap. But trust me, the Cliffs of Moher are definitely worth it!!! Worth seeing, worth walking, worth sitting and taking in the views. They are incredible. ESPECIALLY with good weather, which we were lucky enough to have!

It’s one of those places where pictures really don’t do it justice. You can pin as many photos to your “Travel” Pinterest board as you want, but NOTHING will ever compare to seeing the Cliffs of Moher in person. From walking up to the cliffs with pure excitement and anticipation, to turning the corner and FINALLY catching a glimpse. Then, laying on the super soft grass and letting the breeze brush over you.

Basically, a visit to the Cliffs of Moher are sooo worth it. An absolute MUST for anyone visiting Ireland!

We did a tour of the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren out of Galway through Galway City Tours last weekend. The tour started at 10 AM and we didn’t get back to Galway until after 7. But, the day flew by because there was SO much to see!

Stop 1: Dunguaire Castle + Kinvara

We started off by driving along the scenic Galway Bay to Dunguaire Castle, passing the fishing village of Kinvara.

Stop 2: The Burren

Then we entered into The Burren, with it’s landscape known for rolling hills and LOTS of rocks. We passed little fairy forts and ancient burial sites, all while our bus driver/tour guide told us about the history there.

Stop 3: Kilfenora

Next we stopped at Kilfenora village to wander around old graves and check out ancient Celtic crosses.

Stop 4: Doolin

Next, we stopped for lunch in the cute little village of Doolin, passing some more amazing scenery and the rocky Burren landscape on the way!

Stop 5: Cliffs of Moher

And after that, we FINALLY got to the Cliffs of Moher, what we had all been waiting for! Although it had been a bit cloudy earlier in the day, when we got to the cliffs the weather was absolutely perfect. I’m talking pure sun and clear skies. It was very windy which was a bit scary when you’re so high above the ocean. But…we all made it out alive!

The cliffs were busy with visitors, but even with all the people you could still feel like you were the only one there. I found several little spots to sit on the edge and watch the birds flying around the bottom of the cliffs. Basically, to just soak it all in. The views were seriously unreal! Check out the flowers, listen to the water hitting the bottom of the cliffs, maybe spot a puffin… the Cliffs of Moher have so much natural beauty, it’s definitely worth it to pause and take it all in.

The tour was a great way to see areas that I wouldn’t have been able to access by public transportation. And, it allowed us to learn this history of the area! My one complaint of the whole experience is that we didn’t have enough time there! I could’ve spent 6 hours hanging out at the cliffs but unfortunately our tour only gave us an hour and a half!

I would highly recommend visiting the Cliffs of Moher to anyone visiting Ireland – they are absolutely worth it! And be expected to be blown away! (Both literally and figuratively)
