A Year in Review: Peace out 2014, it’s been real
Holy cow. When I look back on everything that happened in 2014, I am flabbergasted that it was all just 365 days! I am so blessed to have been to some amazing places and had some truly incredible experiences this year. Its been a whirlwind, including graduating college, visiting Cabo and the Bahamas, traveling through Europe for a month, attending several concerts and TWO overseas music festivals, starting my first “big girl job,” and, of course, beginning to blog regularly. Here is my 2014 in review and some highlights from every month of the year!
January
Let’s start my 2014 review from the very beginning. After all the new year celebrations, January got COLD. We had tons of snow days, which NEVER happens in Louisiana. And of course, since roads are frozen over and too dangerous to drive to work and school, what do people do? Party, of course! Many a snow day were enjoyed with the perfect cold-weather beverage…a beer(?). Then the weather got better, and it was great to be able to go outside again without dying of hypothermia.
February
February was full of bridal showers, parties, and the beginning of Mardi Gras ball season. Hightlights of this month included a couple of shows at the Varsity in Baton Rouge, like Earphunk, and some BEAUTIFUL weather. Oh, and, my first encounter with the amazing creatures that are golden doodles.
March
March was a crazy month. From the Buku in New Orleans, to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, St. Patrick’s Day AND driving to Houston and back in a day for an Ellie Goulding concert, March was basically one big, month-long party. No complaints here though.
April
April included a “senior trip” to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with all of my best friends at an amazing all-inclusive resort, as well as a kick-ass concert by the Local Natives at a local venue in Baton Rouge and several sorority functions.
May
May held one of the biggest events of my life – college graduation. It was a whirlwind of finals, senior theses, graduation parties, goodbyes, and new starts. But, what better way to celebrate/mourn being done with college forever than with a trip to the Bahamas? I’ll tell you – there isn’t one. My mom and I went to the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, Bahamas as “chaperones” for my little brother’s senior trip. But really, we just laid out, visited some islands, did a boat cruise, went shopping, and drank a ton of rum…ah, good times.
June
June started off with a bang with a 1975 show at the New Orleans House of Blues. Then, about a week later, I left on yet another European adventure! The first stops of the trip were Dublin, the Isle of Wight for the Isle of Wight Music Festival, Edinburgh, London, Berlin, and Innsbruck, Austria! What a crazy busy / amazing month.
July
My European adventure continued through July. I got to visit Prague, Italy, and Portugal, spend July 4th in Cinque Terre and attend Nos Alive music festival in Lisbon before our trip came to a close mid-July. Then, it was back to reality – in the harshest way – because I started my first “big girl job.”
August
August started off with the daytime party/debauchery known as the annual Red Dress Run in New Orleans. Then, the month continued with more craziness with a trip to Houston for the LSU game, as well as the Brewsiana Beer Festival at the House of Blues in New Orleans at the end of the month. So basically, August was the month of beer (and beer guts).
September
Katy Perry was right. Teenage dreams are the best kind of dreams. And a highlight of September 2014 would definitely be when I lived out my teenage dream and went to the One Direction concert in New Orleans. Harry Styles is truly a Godsend. But actually, the highlight of it all was the night BEFORE the concert when we hung out with one of the members on Bourbon Street. We even got free drinks on his tab, bless him. September also meant tailgating for football games in the not-as-scortching Louisiana fall weather.
October
October began with an intimate show by MØ in Baton Rouge and ended with some good ol’ New Orleans Voodoo. Oh, and there was a spontaneous beach trip to Florida in the middle of it all. I’ll take it. PS — the beach in October is the way to go! It was practically deserted and although the water was really chilly, it was still sunny enough to get a good tan!
November
What better way to start off November than with a chilly end to Voodoo Fest! The month continued with good times in Baton Rouge, Thanksgiving with my family, and lots and lots and lots and lots of (too much) food.
December
Looking back on 2014 in review, there’s only one conclusion: 2014 was truly one for the books. I traveled to some pretty kick-ass places and saw some kick-ass things. But I am so ready for 2015 and all the exciting things to come! I have some BIG plans for 2015 (which I’ll share later) so I think its only going to get better from here!
