Ellie Goulding in Houston, Texas
About a week ago, I decided skipping school and driving to Houston and back in one day to go see Ellie Goulding in concert was an absolutely fantastic idea.
So, we left home around 7 AM and began the 4ish hour drive to Houston, Texas. Although I’ve been to plenty of shows in Houston, I had never been to this venue – the Bayou Music Center. Our tickets said it was standing room only, so I assumed it was a House of Blues type of setup.
The venue ended up being in downtown Houston. It was a pretty sweet setup because right next door to the venue was a Hard Rock Cafe. So, when we arrived, we went to the Hard Rock to eat since there wasn’t really a line outside. Radio stations began setting up tents outside. After looking at the box office to see what other acts would be playing there in the near future, I realized that she was one of the bigger artists on the venue’s spring lineup.
It was a beautiful day outside and we didn’t mind waiting to make sure we got a good seat. We eventually got in to a Jack Daniel’s VIP lounge and were able to chill inside when it started to rain… #winning. The VIP lounge got let into the venue early, so we scored a spot in the 2nd row!
The concert was fantastic! The opening act was an LA-based group Conway (check ’em out!). The groups frontwoman was really charismatic and funny, and they had some pretty great tunes.
And of course, Ellie put on a great performace. She’s on the quieter side (especially compared to her opener) but her crowd interaction had definitely improved from when I had seen her live a year before. Her backup singers were so great! They occasionally even stole the show from Ellie with their synchronized dancing and fun presence. Her concert started off with a bang, then went through several slower songs in the middle. Then, it ended with super high-energy that had the whole crowd jumping up and down in sweaty unison. And, much to my happiness, she sang quite a few songs off her older album, Lights.
Seeing Ellie Goulding live was definitely worth the drive to Houston and back. Although a super late-night Denny’s breakfast on the way back definitely helped us stay alive! If you’re jealous and wish you would’ve been there, you can listen to her whole setlist here!
