Bath, England: A 1-Day Itinerary

Bath, England: A 1-Day Itinerary

Sometimes, you just need a little weekend getaway. Especially for those of us who have to be working adults, a quick little trip is a great way for us to still keep our wanderlust in check and see new places, but also not get fired from our jobs for taking too much time off.

I for one am always browsing airline sites to see about cheap flights and deals. From Ireland the quickest and cheapest flights, and the most frequent flights, are to the UK. So, after some browsing and researching, I decided to make a little “hit it and quit it” trip to Bath, England. It seemed small enough to explore in a few days, it was cheap and easy to get to, and it looked beautiful.

Well, turns out you can see the best of Bath in just 1 day, and here’s a guide to help you make sure you don’t miss anything!

4 Must-See Summer Events in the UK

4 Must-See Summer Events in the UK

Summer is arguably one of the best times to visit Great Britain. Like Ireland, Britain really comes alive in the summer. Not only are the British Isles blessed with beautiful countrysides and delightfully temperate weather in the summer months, they’re also home to some of the best summer events and festivals in the world. These are just a few picks from my own bucket list of fun, must-see summer events in the UK that everyone should check out on their next visit!

Camden Market

Marvelous Markets, pt. 4: Camden Market – London

Camden Market

Ah, Camden Market. Where do I even begin? Oh, I know…this is one of my favorite things to do in London (I make sure to stop by every time I’m there) and honestly I’d go as far as saying it’s the best market I’ve ever been to.

A maze of food, souvenirs, vintage, trinkets….my actual happy place. There’s something for everyone here, and you could all day wandering around the web of vendor stalls and shops.

Winter Wonderland – Hyde Park, London

Walking in (Hyde Park’s) Winter Wonderland // London

Winter Wonderland – Hyde Park, London

With the leftovers of Storm Jonas making Dublin rainy and miserable, and with the temperature slowly starting to creep up again, I can’t help but reminisce on how wonderful and crisp Christmastime was here in Dublin. But of course, I can’t stop thinking about my Christmas trip to London and how much I want to go back!

I gave a bit of a spiel about my wonderful Christmas holiday in London, but I thought I’d hone in on a few highlights a little more. And one of those highlights is Winter Wonderland in Hyde park – an absolute necessity for anyone visiting London over the holidays.

With carnival rides, ice villages, Bavarian beer gardens, market stalls, and food offerings, it’s the perfect way to spend a crisp day in the capital city.

Christmas in London

The Best Holiday in the Best City // Christmas in London

Christmas in London

I’ve probably mentioned this many times before, but London truly is my favorite place.

I know it’s expensive…super expensive. I know it’s crowded. I know housing is ridiculous. I know that living there probably isn’t as glamorous as it’s made out to be.

But still, there’s just something about it that I just love. The history, the beauty, the parks, the accent. It’s all just perfect. And that is my honest opinion, as a tourist wearing rose-colored glasses of course.

I’ve been to London 3 times previously, but always during the summer. So this was my first time visiting not only during the winter, but during the holidays. And it’s no surprise at all that it’s just as wonderful, and even more magical, during the holidays. There just isn’t anything quite like Christmas in London.

Harry Potter Studio Tour

The Harry Potter Studio Tour

Harry Potter Studio Tour

For today’s post, I’m taking it wayyyy back to the Summer of 2012. I went on a great trip through Europe with a group of college kids. One of our stops was London, and THE single most epic day of our London rendezvous started with a double-decker bus tour that led us to seeing THE QUEEN, and ended with the Harry Potter studio tour.

London, shot on film

My Beloved London, Shot on Film

London, shot on film

Upon arriving in London, my spirits are lifted and I immediately become happy. I’ve been 3 times, and the beauty of the city still floors me every time.

I realize that I may have a romanticised view of London, but I don’t care. To me, it is the perfect place.

The first time I went to London, I shot some images with my old Pentax film camera with 35mm color film. I love photos taken on film because they have a certain graininess and rawness to them, and it’s such a surprise when you get them developed and see them for the first time. These photos capture what is, to me, the mood of my beloved London.

Top 5 Things to Do in Edinburgh

Top 5 Things to do in Edinburgh (if you’ve never been)

Top 5 Things to Do in Edinburgh

The first time I did a post like this, it was about my now-home, Dublin. This time, I wanted to highlight what is one of my favorite cities I visited last summer – Edinburgh, Scotland.

I was only there for a little over 72 hours, but Edinburgh blew me away. I was so pleasantly surprised by how beautiful it was, how much you can do in a short amount of time, AND how many of the awesome things we did were FREE! Plus, we got super lucky with the weather — it was warm and sunny and beautiful!

You can definitely see the best of what Edinburgh has to offer in just a few days. Obviously, I would’ve loved more time there, but I was able to squeeze in tons of beautiful views, history, and bar hopping in my busy weekend.

So if you ever want to pop on over to Edinburgh for the weekend, or even just want to get a taste of the city, these are my top 5 recommendations!

Isle of Wight Festival 2014

Reminiscing on Isle of Wight Festival 2014

Isle of Wight Festival 2014

If I had a ridiculous amount of money, I think I’d spend all of my time at music festivals. There’s just something so wonderful about spending a gorgeous day/weekend outside listening to great live acts, surrounded by people who are (usually) friendly and have the same interests. When planning my post-grad Europe trip last summer, I knew that I really really wanted to attend a foreign music festival. So once we had our dates I started to research music festivals and found Isle of Wight Festival in England. A music festival on an island off of the southern coast of England? Um….sign me up please!

The Abbey Road Fail

The “Abbey Road Fail”

The Abbey Road Fail

“Hey, look! It’s Abbey Road! We should go check it out!” I said to my friends while pointing to the tube map in my hands.

That’s how it all started. I saw a stop on the DLR London Tube Map called “Abbey Road.” We were all the way in Belgravia area, by the Victoria Station, which was pretty far from the Abbey Road station, even on the tube.

But, I convinced my friends to come check it out with me. After all, I’m a huge Beatle’s fan, and how cool would it be to see the real Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles recorded the legendary album? And to take a (super touristy) picture on that same corner of the road??

Besides, it wouldn’t be that hard, right? We could just take the tube to the station and check it out. WRONG.
